The oddities of Route 66

Route 66. The Mother Road. America’s Highway.

It’s cool. It’s weird. It’s eccentric. It’s an experience. And it actually doesn’t exist anymore, at least not in the sense of a freeway that you can drive on. No, historic Route 66 has fallen into disrepair and is a scattered remnant of its former glory. The old road sure had a lot of character and fortunately some of these roadside attractions still exist today, albeit a slight detour from the modern freeways that I’ve been following. Here are some of the most interesting things I’ve seen:

Blue Whale: Ccatoosa, OK

Pops: outside of Oklahoma City, OK

The Big Texan: Amarillo, TX

Cadillac Ranch: Amarillo, TX

Wall of vintage signs: Albuquerque, NM

It’s been a fun ride so far, I’m excited to see what’s in store for me on 66 as I continue on to California!
